Hello from Petina Watkins: Joining SproutX as Program & Community Officer!

In May 2023 we welcomed Petina Watkins as Program & Community Officer.

We had a little chat over tea and snacks to discuss our aspirations and goals for the agtech scene in Australia.

Welcome to the team, Petina! 🥳

Tell us about your new role at SproutX?

Petina, “I’m thrilled to be part of the team at SproutX. It’s an exciting role as the Program & Community Officer, where I have the opportunity to foster growth and innovation in the agri/ foodtech industry. I’ll be working closely with founders, investors, and the wider community, I aim to create and support impactful programs like our Accelerator and Pre-Accelerator, driving the development of groundbreaking solutions in agriculture.”

What have been your impressions so far?

Petina, “My first few weeks at SproutX have been incredibly inspiring. I joined the team during the wrap-up of our our Autumn 2023 Pre-Accelerator and have been involved in behind-the-scenes planning for the upcoming Accelerator and Spring Pre-Accelerator. The energy and passion within the team and the wider agtech community are contagious, and I’m excited to witness the potential for transformative change in this industry.”

What were you up to prior to joining SproutX?

Petina, ”Prior to joining SproutX, I had the pleasure of working with the entrepreneurship program, SPARK Deakin at Deakin University, where I honed my skills in marketing and community building. Additionally, I contributed to the success of small business owners at the global handmade marketplace, Etsy. These experiences have fueled my passion for supporting entrepreneurs and driving positive change.”

What excites you most about working with founders in agri/ foodtech?

Petina, “Working with founders in agri/foodtech truly exhilarating. Their drive, innovation, and commitment to addressing pressing challenges in our food systems are truly remarkable. I’m excited to collaborate with these visionary entrepreneurs, supporting them in their journey, and contributing to the future of sustainable and efficient agriculture.”

Favourite fruit and vegetable (This is agriculture, after all…)

Petina, “Now, onto the important stuff: when it comes to favourite fruit and vegetable, I absolutely adore feijoas. This unique fruit reminds me of my childhood in New Zealand, and whenever I come across it, I can’t resist getting some.

As for my favourite vegetable, sweet potatoes take the top spot. I enjoy exploring creative recipes like sesame seed and turmeric sweet potato wedges.”
